I am a Filipino Through the Eyes of an American Citizen In Webster’s New Dictionary, history is characterized as an investigation of past occasions; course of life or presence. Without history, we wouldn’t know our societies, where we originated from, and the significant occasions that changed the world. This is valid for some individuals, since some of them don’t know their way of life or their families’ history. Non-white individuals, particularly numerous minorities who are conceived in America (second era) tend to not gain proficiency with their chronicles, for they need to adjust to the American way of life which cause them to lose a piece of their character. Another motivation behind why many second ages don’t realize their history is that many are learning the American history or a large number of them are not posing or willing to inquiry the instructor about their history. Concerning myself, I fit in to that class, since I am one of the numerous individuals who don’t know their ethnicityâ €™s history, which is Filipino. Presently in the year 2001, I’m in school and needing to learn and scrutinize my people’s history. â€Å"College is perhaps the best source to become familiar with your history† (DeGuia). In learning my history, I scrutinized my companion Rex DeGuia (who is additionally Filipino) about his background and contrasted his life and my background, wherein we both have a few likenesses and contrasts. Rex DeGuia, a man who distinguishes himself as a â€Å"Filipino† man, was conceived in December 4, 1971. He has four relatives, whom he cherishes beyond a reasonable doubt, and was conceived in the United States of America, which makes him a second-age resident. He lives in a predominately white city of San Fernando Valley. This is one reason why he is Americanized. Growing up was hard for him, for he felt like a pariah. Generally speaking, DeGuia and I are comparative in certain things and diverse in different things. The motivation behind why I picked him was on the grounds that he had a major impact in my life in finding my personality. In Balboa High, there is isolation between the Filipino Americans and the Filipino-conceived.
